Culture and Civilisation of the French-speaking World

The teaching of French as a Foreign Language (FFL) has shifted over the years from a purely academic endeavor that emphasized imparting knowledge of meaning, forms, structures and sounds of the French language.  Today, the teaching of FFL must of necessity include teaching of the cultures and civilizations of the French-speaking world, including new and emerging cultures of the 21st Century.  This thematic area finds its justification in the fact, as  research shows, that injecting a cultural element in the teaching of FFL leads to better and faster learning of the French language as well as higher motivation to learn the language.  Teaching a component of culture and civilization prepares our graduates to communicate appropriately in the language in a multiplicity of real life situations of discourse, in whatever career paths that they may follow.
